Lai Youttitham, a guitar player, pulled this ukulele out of the garage one day, figured out how to tune it, and began jamming on it. The result was this original instrumental composition, which, though it remains untitled, has received many views and fan compliments.
Lai, who goes by “i’M Lai” on the video sites, was born in Laos, where he lived the first 19 years of his life. At 19 he made up his mind to leave Laos. He crossed the Mekong River (“luckily didn’t get shot”) and was put in a refugee camp. From money sent to him by his brother and sister for food, he saved to buy a used guitar. Determined to make it to Canada, he secured an interview by a Canadian to determine if he would make a good citizen of that country. Eventually he was allowed to emigrate to Canada, where he gained citizenship three years later.
Lai normally plays a mean electric guitar, but here he gives us an opportunity to see that he is really a master of the strings whatever the instrument.
